Iwate, the soaring peak visible through the windows of the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, where Grand Seiko mechanical watches are assembled. A classic form prevails thanks to this creation’s mirror-finished bezel and case, gently curved lugs with Zaratsu polishing, and a box-shaped sapphire crystal. Inside is the Grand Seiko Caliber 9S66. Assembled at the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi by skilled craftsmen and women, the self-winding Caliber 9S66 is a GMT movement that runs for approximately 72 hours when fully wound.

Iwate when it is blanketed by this sea of clouds. A rotating sapphire bezel in blue and white elevates the design while allowing for a total of three time zones to be read at once. And one body of water to the southeast of the Shinshu Watch Studio, the home of Spring Drive, is a perfect example. The dial of SLGA019 evokes the surface of Lake Suwa and its gentle waves in the early morning hours when a breeze stirs the long, shallow lake. The blue dial manifests different colors depending on the angle at which it catches the light, reinforcing the connection to wind moving across and changing the surface of the water.

The coastal waters of Japan are influenced by the flow of the Kuroshio Current, one of the world’s major ocean currents, as well as by the nutrient-rich waters of the Oyashio Current, creating one of the world’s most diverse ocean regions. The dynamic undulation of the waves of these ocean currents is expressed in the powerful dial pattern of this watch, which also uses a unidirectionally rotating bezel with an insert made of ceramic.
