Several factors ensure a watch fits comfortably and looks proportionate on a man’s wrist. Here are some specific recommendations to guide your selection:
Wrist Circumference
- Start by measuring the wrist circumference. Use a flexible tape measure and wrap it around the wrist, just above the wrist bone. If you don't have a tape measure, use a strip of paper or string and mark it where it overlaps. Then, measure it against a ruler.
- Once you know the wrist size, you can select the correct watch case diameter and band length.
Case Size: Men's watches typically range from 34mm to 46mm. For wrists around 15cm or less, watches in the 34mm to 42mm range usually look best. Larger wrists, around 18cm or more, better suit watches from 44mm to 46mm. It's important the watch doesn't appear too small or overpowering on the wrist.
Band Length: The band's material (metal, leather, rubber, etc.) can also affect how the watch sits on the wrist. Ensure the band is long enough to fit comfortably. Many metal bands can be adjusted by removing or purchasing extra links, while leather or fabric straps usually have multiple holes for size adjustment. Some brands also offer short or long straps for the perfect fit.
