The dial of this dress watch is in a deep burgundy color that is inspired by the rich autumn colors of Boshū, the ‘sekki’ or season when the trees that surround the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi in northern Japan change in hue and announce that winter is just around the corner. Powered by the slim, hand-wound movement, Caliber 9S64, this refined timepiece is simple in its overall design but so exquisitely finished that its details are forever fascinating. The dial is open and clean but, when viewed through the sapphire case back, the intricate perfection of the hand-assembled and adjusted movement is abundantly and satisfyingly clear. Thanks to a long mainspring and a balance, both made of proprietary SPRON alloys, this watch has a high and stable accuracy rate and a power reserve of 72 hours.

Most winters, Lake Suwa freezes over and, every few years, a long ridge appears in the ice from one side of the lake to the other. Tradition has it that this is the ‘Omiwatari’ or where the gods walk out over the ice. Caliber 9S63 is a significant addition to the ever growing Grand Seiko family of movements. It has been eight years since the last manual-winding mechanical caliber in Grand Seiko and it has been worth the wait. Caliber 9S63 offers a small seconds hand at the nine o’clock position and a power reserve indicator at three o’clock. Caliber 9S63 has a power reserve of 72 hours and delivers an accuracy rate of +5 to -3 seconds a day. A classic combination of a clean white dial and black crocodile strap create a perfect harmony. A curved dial with the hand-bent minute and power reserve hand gives the watch a classic look.
